THIN LIZZY. JOHNNY THE FOX POSTER by Jim FitzPatrick
This is the original poster used as a promo for the release of Thin Lizzy’s new 1976 album Johnny the Fox to follow the success of Jailbreak. I have a few copies of this one myself but all were folded and a bit battered. I have ironed out all the creases in Photoshop and here it is, restored to its former glory.
I had intended a variant of the cover art for the poster but the art dept in the record company, Phonogram/vertigo, decided to use both the front and back cover art on the poster which made it a bit unwieldy and unbalanced in my own opinion but it worked so I can’t complain. The reason was very simple: the band portraits were on the back cover and they needed them on the poster too so they used both.
It’s an awkward size and shape but still looks pretty good in my opinion and of course, as the artist, I enjoyed seeing all my art in action however nicely re-composed.
