Description:  A nice first printing of the first edition which has been SIGNED by August Derleth. Original hardback in the original dustwrapper.

The dustwrapper is not price clipped and still shows the original $2.50 price to the inside front flap. The dustwrapper is in nice condition with wear and closed tears to the extremities, some loss to the spine and front cover, sellotape to spine (see pictures). The book itself has light wear to the extremities (see pictures). Internally clean and bright. Binding sound and square. This copy has been nicely signed to the front free end paper "To Dr S T Hersch, with cordial regards - Sincerely August Derleth". A very nice item.

Derleth wrote to Conan Doyle after hearing that he was not going to write any more Sherlock Holmes stories. He offered to write them for him and Doyle politely turned him down. Derleth then invented Solar Pons, a pastiche of Sherlock Holmes, who also has great powers of deduction, lived at 7B Praed Street with a companion, Dr. Lyndon Parker.
