Title:  Middle Earth

Author: Gamel Woolsey

Publisher: Grant Richards Fronto Limited, London

Edition: First Edition, First Printing

Date Printed: 1931

Description:  Scarce. A very nice example of the first printing of the first edition. Original polished buckram hardback with gilt titles to spine. In the rare original dustwrapper. 72 pages, plus frontispiece by Frank Pollard.

The dustwrapper is neatly price-clipped to the inside front flap, and is in very attractive condition, with just a little wear and toning (see pictures).  The book itself is in excellent condition, with no obvious sign of wear, and bright gilt titles (see pictures). This appears to be the copy used by the literary critic Hugh l'Anson Fausset, bearing his name to the dustwrapper and pencilled underlining to sections of the text.

Gamel Woolsey (1895-1968) was an American poet who later lived in England and Spain. Neither of her novels was published in her lifetime because of their explicit content. Virago have since published them, but her brilliant poetry remains underrated.
