Tuareg women have a superstitious fear of gold and will not wear it. Silver has
thus taken its place in the tuareg traditions which is regarded as a noble
metal, pure and lucky. The silver along with the ornaments gives protection in
life. Every jewel is a message and contains sometimes ancient forgotten
symbols. The geometric patterns and designs are integrated into the pieces in a
way that results in jewellery that speaks universally from the particular, and
has a uniquely aesthetic appeal. The circlular motifs and the crosses within
the piece combine male and female symbols in union, to create a concrete object
of great beauty. Also the circular pendants or motifs are known as Issaran and
represent the full moon and its properties, worn during lunar celebrations and
