Description: The name of Dr. Edward MacLysaght is synonymous with standard works on Irish surnames and Irish family history...subjects which he has studied for over fifty years. In 1957 he published Irish Families, which dealt with the more common names. This present volume derives from two subsequent books which have been substantially revised and merged and which cover a larger number of names...over 1,800. It also includes a new essay on the Irish Chieftainries, many interesting appendices, maps, etc. Although the entries are arranged alphabetically, readers are advised that the best way to use the book is through its index. Edward MacLysaght served as Chief Herald and Genealogical Officer of the Irish Office of Arms, as Keeper of Manuscripts at The National Library of Ireland and, for many years, as Chairman of the Irish Manuscripts Commission.
Condition: This book is in good to very good condition. It has the original dust cover with a clear laminate (see picture). The cloth board hardcover shows minimal wear (see picture). The inside pages are in very good condition with no tears, discoloration, bent corners, creases, writing or highlighting. No pages are loose or missing. The binding is tight.
