Description: A very nice first printing the first edition of this scarce Puffin Picture Book. Original pictorial wraps. This is No 64 in the series and perhaps Jack Townend's best known work.

The book is in very nice condition with some wear and an few small chips to the edges (see pictures). Great lithograph illustrations throughout.  Internally clean and bright. Free of inscriptions. Binding sound and square. A lovely book.

Jack Townend (1918 - 2005) was a British illustrator best know for illustrating Children's Books. His books are included in the Renier Collection of Children’s Literature at the Victoria and Albert Museum. He taught at the Ruskin School of Art, and among his pupils was Shirley Hughes the writer and illustrator.
