Steamin’ In 2017

All aboard for a look at four different operations featuring steam power in 2017.

We begin at the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois. Southern Railway 2-8-0 #401 has been operating at the museum one weekend per month between May and October since her return in 2010, but she never sounded like this! An Illinois Central whistle came on the market, and a member purchased it for use on #401. The whistle was installed on the engine in August, and we present highlights of three months of operations. Included is an unplanned freight run in September.

Next we visit the Strasburg Rail Road in Pennsylvania, where 1910 built Canadian National 2-6-0 #89 returned to service in September following a two year rebuild. Our cameras were on hand for her first full weekend of operations.

Our next stop is the former Central of Georgia Railroad line between Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Summerville, Georgia, for a pair of doublheaded excursions led by Southern Railway 2-8-0 #630 and 2-8-2 #4501. Highlights of both days are combined.

The show wraps up in Roanoke, Virginia, in May, as Norfolk & Western Class J 4-8-4 #611 hauled a series of Memorial Day excursions from Roanoke to Lynchburg and Walton. We present the highlights of all three days.

All aboard as we go Steamin’ In 2017!
