Hofner Solid body 182 E2 Bass from mid to late 1963.
Near mint example of a rare and sort after short scale bass.
Features Original 1963 Staple 511 Pick ups with Pot codes 393 & 393. This is the classic set up in Mr McCartney's 1963 bass with his Pots codes being 283 & 283. Just weeks apart!
These Pickups have lost none of their hum-bucking prowess and are all original to this bass (and to its 1963 Violin cousin too) I can give you the Ohm readings if you email me but are above 7.5 last time I checked.
The control switches work to solo either the bass neck pickup or the bridge treble pickup or a blend of the two. The Solo /Rhythm switch cuts the overall volume down by 70% and these along with the original untouched electronics, are in perfect working state and feature the exact same original german capacitors as in Sir Paul McCartney's bass.
The paintwork is really nice and the strap buttons are the early white (now cream) type and again are in excellent original condition. This bass has really been looked after well.
Action is very low all the way up the neck. Perfect.
Newly setup with a new set of LaBella 760FHB2 Flat wounds (worth £45 alone),
The original pickguard is still present thoughI have made an exact copy and to preserve the original cracked one which I shall include with the sale.
It really is a nice early Hofner and as such quite a rare bird. Hofner decal is not scratched and is all original and sets off the grain really well.
If one really wanted.., you could lift or extract the pickups & control panel, and install in one of the new German Hofner violins for the best of both worlds!!
These are so light and fun to play, especially for someone who has never picked up a bass before.
Pleasure to play.
