Description

This auction is for a most attractive cruet set of salt, pepper and mustard from Royal Doulton dating to the Art Nouveau era.

The most attractive pieces have a typical 'Nouveau' tube-lined design of stylised 'candle-shaped' leaves plus star flowers in cobalt blue and mustard on a mottled sage green ground with chocolate glazed rims. The mustard may have originally had a lid.

The pieces are impressed with the Royal Doulton lion and crown mark England plus design number '7493'.  This mark dates to between 1902 and 1922.  There is also the artist initials of 'HG' to the mustard.

The salt spoon is hallmarked for Birmingham 1921.
The mustard spoon is hallmarked for Birmingham 1916
.

The pepper measures about 3 inches (7.5 cm) high, the handled mustard measures 2 inches (5 cm) high and the salt measures 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cm) in diameter.

The set is in very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs save for a very shallow glaze flake to the bottom rim of the mustard and scratch to the salt rim.  Please see photos.  The mustard may originally have had a lid.
