Bactrian Copper Alloy Lobed Openwork Stamp Seal with Corrugated Edges, Middle Bronze Age 2600-2100 B.C.

Description.  A Bactrian (Western Central Asia) lobed openwork copper stamp seal featuring corrugated edges.  This middle bronze age metal work was excavated and described in Myths of Ancient Bactria-Margiana on Its Seals and Amulets by Dr. Victor Sarianidi, who lead the Russian archaeological team (pp. 106, 107, plate 301) after the invasion of Afghanistan.  The seal is in the form of four bird heads arranged around a central cross patee with a suspension loop to the back.  This item comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the Royal Athena Gallery in New York, October 1990 and provenance if requested.

Dimensions.  2 ¼ in. x 2 5/8 in. x ¼ in. on a 5 in. high lucite stand.
