Description:
You are bidding on a lovingly created digital vintage sewing pattern
styled from G. A. and F. A. Haslam's drafting system from the 1950s: an original design from England. This pattern has been drafted by the traditional method to remain
true to vintage style and method, with the addition of being confirmed true by
modern techniques. And of course, being made into multi sized patterns
for ease of size selection and fitting.
This sewing pattern is used to make: a dress with a pleated skirt detail. The skirt has off centre pleats to the front and back skirts. The skirts are darted to the waist. the front bodice is gathered to the front yoke, has a collar and lapel, and has a button closure to the centre front. Sleeves are 3/4 length and set in with shaped cuffs.
Essential information: (Read before buying)
The user will need to add own seam allowances, create facings, make
personal fit adjustments, and determine layout and construction methods: NO INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCLUDED. This
is a vintage style pattern and may need modern adjustments. I would recommend constructing an inexpensive
toile first. Please do compare your own measurements with those in
the chart as this is a vintage sized item and is not like the sizes used by
modern high street manufacturers. The Vogue Smart Dressmaking manual is an
optional purchase item - please read below.
Vouge's Smart Dressmaking (Description):
The VSD manual comes with a FREE
waistcoat pattern (B36") which Vogue suggest can be made from "Celanese shark
skin". The pattern used with the manual
teaches beginners how to make the blouse waistcoat, from tailoring the pattern
to your own size (slash and spread), make personal fit adjustments - Vogue says if you follow the pattern it will still be a vogue cut - how to lay out the
fabric, cut, sew the various seams, bound the button holes, facings and much
more.
The manual was designed for use by the 'wife' in the home
and therefore has a no-fuss approach. The
diagrams are clear and the message gets across with minimal instructions. Obviously being vintage 1937, it is the ideal
accompaniment when sewing these vintage patterns; for example, it gives advice
from the times on how to sew those gussets in those kimono tops iconic of the
50s - very authentic!
Please note this is not specific to this pattern, or any
other. It is designed to be a reference
manual to dip in and out of.
The manual is ethically supplied as a pdf on a CD-rom
with a paper digital reproduction of the full sized pattern. The manual can be bought for £9.99 on a standalone
listing, or £3.99 as an add -on item. Contents
list can be seen in the images.
A disc (style/brand may vary) and digitally remastered paper pattern is supplied.
About me:
My patterns come in many guises. Some I create from
vintage fashion plates and are in every way an authentic vintage pattern, some
are digitised original hard-to-find or out-of-print vintage patterns with the
option of being graded to offer more sizes, and some are created from iconic
photographs using patterns of the era with a little bit of skill and expertise
included to create a pattern that is often a unique find - if even ever made! Hands
up those of you who would like to wear a Marilyn Monroe dress, or that of one
of your icons??
My patterns are crafted by hand, digitised and then
printed on the best paper available. I
only use fit-for-purpose fashion design paper, not other styles of paper that may
tear when you pin it and does not move as one with the fabric. I strive to continue product development in
order to provide you the best experience when using a DPP pattern.
If in doubt, or if you have any questions please message
before making a purchase.
Finally, do you have a design in mind that you would like
to buy? Message me for a request and I
shall create a listing for you.
A
word or two on sizing:
I use the modern 1982 British Standards size charts. These relate closely to the vintage sewing
patterns such as Vogue and Simplicity, and also with today's sewing pattern
manufacturers. You could consider these
as 'vintage sizes' and the reason for this is that high street fashion
manufacturers strayed away from the standards with what is known as 'vanity
sizing' in an attempt to get you to buy their product over their competitors. You could expect to be two sizes larger than
modern high street fashion sizes.
Message me to request sizes 6, 26, 28, 30.
