From a photo album showing the family of Reverent Melville Cox Wire, early settlers of Oregon. The father was Rev. Melville Cox Wire, born in New York in 1846, his wife was Mary Elizabeth Bradshaw Wire, born in Ohio in 1856, they had sons Reverent Melville Thomas Wire, born in Illinois in 1877, Francis (Frank) Wire, born in Illinois in 1879, and Wesley Matthew Wire, born in Illinois in 1883. Both father and son were Methodist ministers. The family lived in many Oregon towns, including Salem, Albany, Portland, Eugene, Klamath Falls, Newberg, Yamhill, Brownsville, Lakeview, Drews Valley, and others. both father and son were schooled in Evanston, Illinois at Northwestern University and Garrette Biblical Institute. Other locations in the collection include Monterey, San Francisco, and Pacific Grove, California; Niagara and Buffalo, New York, and Mt. Vernon, Virginia.
