This handcrafted wallet chain is made from 14 gauge, galvanized steel,
electric fence wire. I coil and cut the rings myself, then assemble
them by hand over a period of time.
The length of the chain is 2 feet (24 inches), not including end clasps.
One
end is a stainless trigger clip, ideally sized for attaching to belt
loops. The other end is a stainless S-biner, ideal for wallets, and/or
phone cases.
Is it stainless? No, it is galvanized. Stainless
is harder and doesn't rust. Galvanized steel is surface treated steel
with a zinc coating. This prevents it from rusting outright, BUT. If
you get it wet (rain, sweat, spilled beverages) you will get a slight
surface tarnish (imagine a chain link fence, out in the elements).
Now,
with that said, is galvanized steel a bad choice? No, not at all. It
just requires a little attention. If it gets wet, you can dry it before
any tarnishing happens. A well-handled galvanized wallet chain will
take on an almost polished, gunmetal gray surface sheen. And, of
course, it is steel. Strong, and durable. It's far cheaper than
stainless, yes, but that doesn't make it flimsy. It just makes it
affordable.
End result? You take good care of this chain, don't
go swimming with it, make sure you handle it frequently, and it will
serve you well for many years.
