The King and The Navy and Army illustrated magazines amalgamated in 1903. This was not successful and sales were very poor, possibly due to the publishers aiming at the widest possible readership with a strange mix of news, fashion, theatre, travel, the British Empire and military articles & pictures. Its strapline at the time was: A weekly illustrated journal for society, the salon and the services. Though short lived, it excelled in each of these areas. It faded away from the news stands in March 1904. The Navy and Army came back on its own in a smaller format in 1914 for World War 1 and focussed on just military matters.
