This auction is for a PRECANCELED horizontal coil pair of the 5c Washington definitive, Scott # 1229. It is precanceled "PITTSBURGH PA", PSS Style 71. It is PSE graded XF-Superb 95, Mint original gum and NEVER HINGED. The certificate number is 01324179 and it is dated 10/25/2016.

The 2024 Stamp Market Quarterly catalogue does not value

stamps above Scott #1207.

The Precancel Stamp Society Catalog of United States Bureau Precancels, 5th edition, states "Some collectors collect bureau precancels with gum. This is particularly challenging for issues before August 1967. Previously, sale of precancels to collectors was prohibited, and most dealers in bureaus soaked off the gum to avoid the appearance of violating postal regulations. As a result, there can be a large premium for some full gum bureaus, especially for issues prior to 1967"
