This kit will convert any TX500 and XS500 1972-1979 engine to accept a modern M20 thread oil filter.  It consists of a CNC machined mount that replaces the original M22 threaded type and will allow you to use a variety of modern M20 spin-on oil filters of your choice and available in your locality.

If you have one of these bikes, you will know that Yamaha for some bizarre reason produced them with a non-standard M22 thread oil filter- the only bike as far as we know that took this size.  These filters have been unavailable from Yamaha or anywhere for many years.  Yamaha did produce a clumsy attempt at converting the engines to take a M20 filter- this involved multiple O rings and adaptor plates and was a pretty poorly engineered solution.  Even these kits are now no longer available.

This kit contains the adaptor, complete with a new gasket to seal it onto the engine.  We also include a brand new M20 oil filter to get you going.  This filter fits many, many modern motorcycles and will be available for years to come.  Not only does it fit under the sprocket cover with room to spare (unlike even the original Yamaha filter!), but the filter can be changed without having to remove the main engine cover (also unlike the original Yamaha design!).
