Antique 18ct Gold 'Edwardian' Sapphire & Diamond Ring c1918

A stunning Antique 'Edwardian' 18ct Gold Sapphire & Diamond Ring dating to 1918, which is set with round Cornflower Blue Sapphires alternating with Diamonds in a Boat Shaped Setting (please study the detailed close-up photographs provided, which form an integral part of the ring's description).

This fine quality Antique Ring, which weighs 2.7 grams, is stamped with the Maker's Mark 'HC&S' together with a full British Hallmark confirming that it is made from solid 18ct Gold. Although this fabulous ring typifies Edwardian Style it was actually assayed in Birmingham in 1918, which is particularly poignant as that date coincides with the end of the First World War - so it may well have been given by a young Soldier to his Sweetheart when he came home from fighting in the Great War.

Overall the ring is in great condition with only very light wear commensurate with age - the Hallmark is still as crisp & clear as the day it was struck, which is a good indication of how little this ring has been worn.

The ring is approx' 7.5mm wide across the Gem set Gallery tapering to approx' 2.5mm at the back for the wearer's comfort. It is sized as a UK Ring Size 'L 1/2', which equates to a US Ring Size '6' - as with almost all antique rings the band is slightly ovalized i.e it is not perfectly round and it measures slightly differently on the gauge depending on how it is positioned, however this will not affect the ring when worn.

In summary, this is a stunning Antique 'Edwardian' 18ct Gold Sapphire & Diamond Ring dating to 1918 - it is quite simply sublime.
