Bitter apricot kernels, also known as apricot almonds or bitter almonds, derive from wild varieties of apricot trees. Oil smells like almonds, has delicate consistency and slightly yellow colour.
Apricot kernels oil contains unsaturated acids: oleic and linoleic, thanks to which it lowers blood cholesterol level. It constitute a perfect source of iodine, responsible for proper cognitive functions of organism, correct energy metabolism and functioning of nervous system. Iodine helps in maintaining healthy skin and also impacts proper work of thyroid and production of its hormones.
In apricot kernels one can find an organic chemical compound from glycosides group, known as amygdalin or vitamin B17. It makes them have this characteristic, bitter taste and aroma and supports body’s defence. In Chinese folk medicine amygdalin had been used for centuries.
How to use:
