Papal provision “made for the liberty, indemnity, or personal security of the Indians who live in the provinces of Paraguay, Brazil, and on the river de la Plata” (Sir Hugh Charles. Christianity versus Slavery, p. 54). Very rare Americana printed 1755 in Lisbon.  

Dated by hand “20 de 10bro de 1755”, just a few days prior to the Great Lisbon earthquake. 

No copies of the present 1755 Portuguese publication has been located in major public libraries worldwide.  The first edition was published 1742 in Rome.
