FRANCE - 2€ commemorative euro coin 2020 - Charles de Gaulle (uncirculated coin from roll)

Charles de Gaulle (22/11/1890 - 9/11/1970) was a French politician and a member of the military. He fought in both the 1st and 2nd World Wars. He eventually became an ofcer in the French army where he had a tremendous inuence. Charles de Gaulle was president of France from 1959 to 1969. Charles de Gaulle fought for the national interest and it is striking that Charles de Gaulle rejected all awards and honours. His inuence is still very large and many political parties often call themselves Gaullist. He managed to prevent total capitulation and a civil war, as a result of which he is still seen by many French people as a National Hero. Charles de Gaulle died 50 years ago, which is why France has decided to issue this 2 Euro coin with him as the subject. The coin shows two portraits of Charles de Gaulle, one as an ofcer and one at an older age. His name Charles de Gaulle is shown in an arc on the right of the coin. The letters 'RF' indicate 'Republique Francaise' (Republic of France).
