This is a UNIQUE piece of history from York in North Yorkshire.
It is made from the 15th Century roof Oak timbers of the Guildhall in York which was bombed by the German's on 29th April 1942 ... the raid was known as the Baedeker Raids.
York suffered greatly from these raids and this particular bit of carved wood was taken from the Guildhall.
It is very well carved and hand painted as well with a picture of York Minster in the bottom right hand corner and British Bomber aircraft with turrets and guns as well as EBOR written on the side of it using the red/white/blue England decal sign of the aircraft.
Feathers are depicted at the top and sides with a V for VICTORY in the centre.
It is very well detailed and carved.
Good deep relief on the Bomber carving.
On the back is a small cream coloured celluloid plaque ..it says ...

MADE FROM THE TIMBERS OF THE GUILDHALL ROOF. YORK. 1448-1942.
Another intruiging thing is attached to the very top of the wood carving by 2 brass loops.. in its own little wooden slot is a DART - ARROW point made from steel and brass. The brass is hollow and has bent inwards slightly on the length and the steel end is slightly rust stained.
I have been trying to find out what this is .. it could well be a German fletchette or incendiary bomb part ? or it might even be an item dropped by the Germans in the First World War, or it might be from the Guildhall as well.
Anyway it is most interesting.
I have bought many items such as this, bits of sharpnel, carvings etc etc  over the years relating to the bombing of major cities and this has to be the VERY BEST example I have ever had. It is such a pity it has not got who carved it on it.
This is a MUSEUM or SERIOUS COLLECTORS item if ever there was one.  I am so happy to own it actually being a true Yorkshireman myself.

It measures approx. 13 inches x 5 and 3/4 inches on the base x 9 inch tall.
The steel and grass dart on the top is 6 inch long.
It all weighs 3.5 kilograms so will be sent to you overseas via GLOBAL PRIORITY mail.
