Finally - take YOUR wonderful IT-100 further away from your operating position!
For those who have an IT-100, you already know what a great tuner this is. The LDG IT-100 is perfect for tuning dipoles, beams, (ladder line fed with one of the LDG optional baluns), etc. You just need to be able to use the tuner further away than the OEM 36 INCH cable will allow!
Your OEM cable is only 36 inches long. How can you use that? (we sell OEM length replacements and a longer version in our eBay store)
If you buy our 10M control cable extension version, then you should use about 30-35 feet of coax (coax not included)
If you buy our 15M control cable extension version, then about 50 feet of coax would be perfect (coax not included)
WHY use a longer control cable? Why not just run more coax and tune inside the shack? Because long runs of coax when high SWR exists (before it gets to the tuner) exhibits MUCH higher loses due to additional feedline loss due to high SWR. Much more than the 50 ohm loss rating you see for coax in teh spec charts.
If you have a very high SWR (like 10:1, for example), you may have an additional 6-9 dB of loss in your coax! That would mean your 100 watts would be only 12.5 to 25 watts of radiated power!
Use CONTROL CABLE extensions whenever possible. By putting your tuner closer to the antenna feedpoint (be sure to properly weatherproof any tuner), you do not introduce additional SWR related feedline loss. Coax AFTER the tuner (to the radio) has NO additional loss due to SWR because the coax is carrying TUNED RF!
I use my LDG IT-100 at my base station with an IC-7100 and IC-7300 and I have one for portable as well. I had a need for a longer control cable and figured you do too!.
