***A little history lesson about Badonviller***

The history of pottery Badonviller goes back to 1828. Nicolas Fenal, farmer, become the owner of a faience factory, founded in 1719 in Pexonne (Meurthe-et-Moselle, France). On his death in 1857, his children and nephews succeeded him and created the brand Fenal Frères (FF). One of the nephews, Theophile Fenal, creates his own factory in Badonviller, after a busy period in Pexonne. The plant is in competition with that of his family in Pexonne.
Very soon after the creation, the factory already has more than 300 workers.

It is nevertheless curious that faience manufacture is established in Badonviller. There is indeed none of the materials that are necessary for the realization of faience: no clay, no lime, no kaolin. Nothing but wood to cook faience (ironstone). Until the time when wood was replaced by coal.

The factory has two centuries of experience in faience production. Everywhere in the region of pottery is made: in Lunéville, Saint-Clément, Pexonne, Niderviller and Sarreguemines. There are also several glass and crystal producers in the region in Baccarat, Vallerystahl, etc. The production of these products was possible because of the forest in Lorraine (region of France) was well managed and gave a good yield for the furnaces.

After Théophile's death in 1905, his son Edouard succeeded him and multiplied social initiatives. At its peak, the company has up to 1,000 employees.

In 1921 the Fenal family bought the pottery of Lunéville and St. Clement which will be directed by Edouard Fenal; the pottery of Badonviller will be directed by his queues Bernard.
Edward died in 1938.
Bernard is killed during the Second World War and is succeeded by his heir, Gilbert.

Well-known artists such as the brothers Mougin and Géo Condé create artistic objects for the company.

In 1963 the Badonviller, Lunéville and St. Clément factories were merged into one company.
