The Special Foreign Competition  ran in 1899 and 1900 only - so 2 or 3 medals in silver and maybe about 4 in Bronze were issued overall.

Later on the competition was started again 1905/ 1906  but a different medal type was then used.

This is a scarce medal being awarded for the 2nd year of the competition which was a print competition for those living abroad other than Continental Europe, or those living in the British Colonies. 

Hence, often refered to as the Colonies and Abroad Competition.

The entries tended to be from South Africa, Australia, Canada, India etc

This medal is a 2nd place award; - A.A. Pugh (Durban, Natal, South Africa)

1st Place medal was a smaller gold medal of different design.

3rd Place being a bronze medal of the same design 

Hallmarked   SILVER   Birmingham 1900 with a makers mark 'J.A.R.' for James Andrews Restall.

VGC  DIMENSIONS 5cm in diameter and is 5mm thick. approx  65.4g.
