Rare  photograph or ?photogravure of Brenda Davies the actress when she appeared in "The Taming of the Shrew" at Peterborough's Little Theatre, Ontario, Canada, in 1949.

In 1940 Australian born Brenda Matthews (1917-2013) married the well known Canadian novelist Robertson Davies (born 1913, see Wiki). In 1949 Robertson directed "The Taming of the Shrew" in which his wife Brenda played the leading role and both won awards for their roles in the production.

To celebrate this success it seems likely that the Canadian artist Grant Macdonald painted this work and that Eaton & Co, at their Commercial Studio produced a number of copies which Brenda may have signed and given to fans/ admirers/family/colleagues.   This one is inscribed "To Norman with good wishes from Brenda, The Shrew, 1949".

Size 10" x 8" on matt photographic card.

A lovely study.
Rare opportunity for those interested in the history of the Canadian theatre.
