VERY UNUSUAL Antique NEZ PINCE Eye Glasses, w/case & NAMED Cleaning Cloth, From Broadway Optician, New York City

DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....VERY NICE pair of antique eye-glasses, w/original case.  Glasses have no lens frames or steel bows.....just the glass lenses on nose piece. Excellent condition overall.

THESE ARE A VERY RARE FORM OF THE NEZ PINCE EYEGLASSES WHICH BECAME POPULAR IN THE FIRST 2 DECADES OF THE 20th CENTURY. Famous photos exist of dignitaries and even PRESIDENTS, e.g. Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, wearing this style. These appear to be a transition nez pince style, looking more like "modern" eye glasses, but the nez pince type. These probably date to 1920's at the very latest, 100 YEARS OLD now. They probably were quite the new style in their day.

Like all nez pince glasses, there are no frames. There is also a hook on the side in one of the lenses, to connect to a chain around the wearer's neck. The nose therefore is what is holding them on the face, and the chain protects them if they fall.

These HAVE THE ORIGINAL HARD CASE with the optician's name and shop address (Broadway, NYC) printed in gold lettering on it. Even rarer, it has the original lens cleaning cloth WITH THE OPTICIAN'S NAME & ADDESS PRINTED ON IT. ....extremely rare!!.

Scans show them all. Very interesting hexagonal lens shape as well.

ANTIQUE GLASSES ARE ALWAYS NICE, AND THIS PAIR HAS IT ALL FOR ANY DISPLAY OR COLLECtiON.

Complete and usable or a nice item to add to a variety of collections. Also, can be worn with modern lenses to give an old fashioned look, or used as props in theatre productions or with Halloween costumes, etc.
