You are bidding on about 40 PRINCESS TREE ( ROYAL PAULOWNIA ) SEEDS Paulownia tomentosa .

Synonyms: Bignonia tomentosa, Paulownia imperialis, Paulownia recurva

Identification: This is a deciduous tree that may reach 60 feet in height and 2 feet in diameter.  The tree has large, heart-shaped, opposite, and very fuzzy leaves. The bark is light to dark gray and rough.  Fragrant, pale-violet, tubular-shaped flowers appear from April to May.  Pecan-shaped capsules, 1 to 2 inches long, appear from June to April and release tiny winged seeds in winter.

Ecology: It is a rapid growing tree that colonizes by root sprouts.  Seeds are spread by wind and water.  This tree is common around roadsides, riparian areas, and forest edges.  Princess tree will invade following fire or mechanical disturbances.

The flowers of the Princess Tree are its most visible asset – the large panicles of lilac purple are very showy in spring usually opening in late March ( in the south to early May ( north ) . While I called it an upside down (or right side up) Wisteria flower, it actually more closely resembles the Foxglove flower (Digitalis purpurea) with its large bell-shaped form.

Medicinal use:

A decoction of the leaves is used to wash foul ulcers and is also said to promote the growth of hair and prevent greying. The leaves are also poulticed onto bruises. The leaf juice is used in the treatment of warts. The flowers are used in the treatment of skin ailments. A tincture of the inner bark is used in the treatment of fevers and delirium. It is astringent and vermifuge.

Edible parts :

Leaves - cooked. An emergency food, used when all else fails. Flowers. Eaten with miso.

Other uses :

Wood - not attacked by insects. Used for making boxes, clogs, furniture, musical instruments etc. Good for posts and beams in construction. A source of charcoal.
