A small vintage Beswick cream jug, model number 674 in good condition with some glaze crazing and a bit of wear to underneath of foot. It has full markings on the base, is hand painted and has a rich shiny glaze.

This pattern number, generally, seems to be called Mr Micawber but to me looks much more like the Victorian illustrations of 'Pickwick Paper's' Tony Weller? The coat looks like a coachman's red livery and the handle of the jug his whip. Mr Micawber wore a tall top hat set at a jaunty angle, much like another Beswick jug of him. I think this is a second version of Tony Weller, the other one having a curling whip handle? I'd love to hear from any Beswick collectors.
