This was hired by my grandfather - a tenant farmer in lincolnshire - to use with the threshing machines at harvest time
This sack may have weighed up to 18 stone when full and local people used lifting machines to help them get the bags on their backs - literally backbreaking work
Sacks were hired for the harvest season
We believe it was hired and manufactured by Andrew Weir and Co - a company later formed into Weir & Carmichael who still manufacture and sell sacks to this day
