These fantastic early to middle 19th c. continental European corbel bracket shelves are carved from richly grained hardwood (walnut?) having warm, worn, original surface patina overall.  Measuring 13" tall x 12 1/2" wide x 6 5/8" deep, they take the form of bold faces surrounded by fruits and leaves and topped by shelf;boards with deeply carved gadrooned edges.  Each has a spectacular amount of personality and the man's moustache really makes this set a standout.  As the images show, some of the edge leaves near the bases have large losses and the man is missing his original wrought hangers which have been replaced by sturdy, modern screw eyes.
