"Noted angling author Darrel Martin brinds his decades of research, hundreds of colour photographs, and years of experimentation to bear on the fascinating evolution of fly fishing contrivances, from the practical to the fanciful, from the dawn of written history until today".

"Martin shows where these technologies were first documented, why they came to be, and details how even today we can burnish our own handmade hooks, furl a horsehair leader, and fashion a functioning rod from readily available wood. He also documents the intriguing art and evolution of fly tying in particular detail, from the earliest documented methods and materials to some of today's most modern patterns, which still inevitably draw on the pedigree off their ancient forebears. What's more, all of these natural marvels still work today".

One chapter presents some of the suthor's own patterns which include historical elements, showing the reasons for them, or showing how they can be used to address modern questions.

Chapters include: An antique disposition; Antique tying; Fly design; Personal patterns; The hook; The line; The loop-rod.

Interesting and illuminating.

PARCELS OVER 2KG are sent by Royal Mail’s Tracked Service. A TRACKING NUMBER is provided with all such orders. The parcel will be delivered the NEXT WORKING DAY, or in some parts of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland, Scilly, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands, the SECOND WORKING DAY.

OVERSEAS POSTAGE is charged by weight, at cost and is generally sent by Airmail. The postage quoted on this listing has been reduced by £3.50 to account for the £3.50 already included in the price of the book (as explained above).

US CUSTOMERS PLEASE NOTE! Airmail parcels entering the USA are inspected by HOMELAND SECURITY. This can include opening the mail sack. Parcels to US addresses can therefore be delayed and sometimes take up to four weeks. We must ask US customers to be very patient - we have now sent out many replacement parcels only to see the original arrive before the replacement. In our experience (30 years, tens of thousands of parcels), almost NO parcels are ever actually lost.

ALL CUSTOMERS, EVERYWHERE, please allow at least 14 days before contacting us to chase up your order.

(In the UK the Royal Mail will not declare a parcel lost & take action before 14 days has elapsed. Overseas, postal services vary in efficiency from country to country. The Irish and the Japanese post offices seem quite good, for example, the Germans less so, and South Africa the slowest by a long way.)

RETURNS are made under the terms of the UK Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 and eBay rules. IMPORTANT: If you are considering returning an item for any reason, you must contact us first to let us know you want to return your parcel. Returned items must be conscientiously re-wrapped, the easiest thing is to use the original packaging, providing this remains in good condition. Overseas customers considering returning an item, please get in touch with us in advance to discuss.
