1 - To protect the ends of the rails from getting knocked and bent up when in use and when in transit. You can fit 2 pairs of these to 2 rails and they still fit in the holdall bags. They also protect the splinter guard to a degree too as the caps extend over the top of the guard.
2 - The ends are rounded to stop the hose from catching on the end of the rail!! Anyone who uses a railsaw regularly knows this is one of the things that can drive you nuts when using rail saws. See the below video link we have done for a demonstration of this:

Please note this listing is for a pair of rail caps (2x pieces, a left and right) that can be fitted to one rail. The rail is not included in the sale! These are compatible items and not original manufacturer parts.
These caps are 3D printed using extremely tough PLA+, and simply fit over the ends of the rail and don't require any tools to install or remove. Colours may vary slightly due to supplier material batches, but we endeavour to keep items produced a dark green/teal as similar to photos as possible.
Also worth mentioning you cannot do plunge cuts with these caps installed since ends of the rails are held off the surface of the material you are cutting by the caps, but for the other 99% of cuts done with the end of the rail hanging off the end of the material they work great.
