This is a ready to run model of an HO scale 40' steel grain loading box car lettered for the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in the brown paint scheme. This car was released by Athearn as item number 2094 in November of 1970, and it is now out of production. This is the factory error version of this car. While doing research for our book, Tim and I talked with the folks at Athearn and they told us that when they first assembled the mold for the 40' grain boxcars, the ends were interchangeable. The entire first run of cars had been molded when they discovered that the brake wheel end of the car was on the end with the short side ladder. The mold was later fixed so it would only go together the correct way.  Car number is 21889, and build date is 8-64. Car is in excellent condition with no broken steps, and has Athearn plastic Roller Bearing trucks and NMRA couplers. Pictures show both sides of the car, and a close up of the error end of the car. Car is not in the original Athearn box but will be boxed well to ship. Don't miss a chance to get this out of production error freight car at a great price. Buyer pays for first class mail shipping. Payment must be received within seven days of item close. I will combine items on multiple purchases to save shipping costs.
