Previously Unknown Rare WW1 Postcard Photograph September 16, 1918 Sinking of the English coal steamer, Wellington, after struck by torpedo at 11:30 A.M. without warning from the German U-Boat U118. The photograph was taken from the coast guard escort ship, Seneca, 10 minutes later, at 11:40 according to the inscription. The ship sank off the coast of Spain. Five crew were lost. Additionally, eleven of the crew of the Seneca escort ship died. The U118 beached in England a few months later.
