Long ago, in a gesture of peace, the Emperor of China offered a giant panda bear to the Japanese Imperial Court. As a member of his court, The Japanese Emperor has entrusted you with the difficult task of caring for the beautiful panda and his sacred bamboo garden.

In Takenoko, players will cultivate land plots, irrigate them, and grow one of the three species of bamboo (green, yellow, and pink) with the help of the Imperial gardener. This task sounds simple, but there's an interesting balance between cultivating the bamboo, irrigating it, and keeping the hungry panda fed. Each player has secret quests to fulfill in the fragile garden, and the bamboo you may be growing, another player may be letting the panda eat. Will you disappoint the Emperor or will you be honored for your great care and compassion?

Mechanisms include dice rolling, secret objectives, set collection and tile placement and development.
