A stunning Victorian era (circa 1890-1910) Mappin & Webb pair of Silver Prince's Plate antique Salad Servers.
Great design in very good condition.
Length circa 22,5 cm / 8 3/4"
See the inscription: some say that the Rd mark '71552' dates it to 1887 but Mappin & Webb date markings are not fully understood and I'd conservatively date these to the early part of the 20th century. Still antique though.
'Prince's Plate' is a higher quality than normal silver plate, as the Mappin & Webb process used a triple deposit of silver, and had an added coating of protection on all vertices and edges of their pieces of cutlery.
