Lampsakos (or Lampsacus) which was strategically located in the eastern Hellespont
on the border of the regions of Troas and Mysia.
The city played a role in the military histories of the Greeks, the Per5ians and Romans.
Famous for its wine, it was captured by Artaxerxes I of Per5ia with the intention of
regularly supplying himself with its famed libation.
This coin was minted between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC.
The Obverse depicts janiform (facing away from each other) female heads.
The Reverse portrays the bust of Athena, wearing her traditional helmet.
