WIGWAM's Dark Album (1977) has A tumultuous production history. The original edition did not go past test pressing stage as Theband 's UK label Virgin rejected it. The band returned To TheTo createThe final Dark Album which eventually was released only in FinlandOnLOVERecords , as Virgin were no longer interested.
This deluxe edition ofWIGWAM 's Dark Album (1977) featuresThe original albumOnTheFirst disc andThe early, rejected version OnThe second, never before released in full. In gatefold covers and with extensive liner notes and interviews. (Svart)

Ah, The Dark Album. First of all, it should be said that hardcore proggers are wasting their Time here. WIGWAM's prog days were over by now ("Nuclear Nightclub" and " LUCKY Golden Stripes And Starpose" were STILL prog-pop, though). But, as I've said before, To me good MUSICMUSIC , so I'm not goingTo dismiss an album just because someone might think it's not prog enough. This is almost solely On Theof things, but there's no denyingWIGWAM 's gifts in creating extremely well-written popMUSIC . Clearly A more balanced record than TLGSAS, Dark Album actually has very little flaws. Helsinki Nights goes into The SameFrom their previous effort,A harmless, butSTILL quite catchy tune. Slightly changing their direction here, The mood ofThe album is surprisingly dark (henceThe name, probably), especiallyOn tracks likeThe Item IsThe totem (One ofThe highlights here). I do not agree with Hugues about The description ofTheMUSIC , I do not hear any country influences here. of course, Pembroke's writing style was always somewhat folk and country oriented (just listen To HISOn here it's justOneofThe ingredients inA well-mixed soup. All in all, Dark Album is One ofWIGWAM albums, and they truly proved that they don't necessarily need Pohjola and GustavsonTo make things work. Unfortunately, The bandTo wait 16 yearsTo hear something newFrom them. (Jimbo/progarchives.com)
