A French knight and his companion, Jean Creton, join king Richard II’s expedition to Ireland in 1399 expecting to enjoy a festival of royal pageantry but their adventure turns to traumatic nightmare when Henry Bolingbroke returns from exile to fight the king for the crown. Written around 1402, this is a highly personalised chronicle which, though written 600 years ago, transports the reader to the desperate and critical final weeks, and dramatic fall of king Richard II.

This edition includes 16 colour illustrations from the original manuscript.

As a bonus, ‘La Chronique de la Traison et Mort de Roy Richart II D’Angleterre’ is included in translation giving historians two important primary sources in one volume.
