28cm High x 12cm Widest Point

Art Nouveau is an ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States.

With a wonderful blue glaze over orange-brown colours with hints of yellow. It has carved green leaf's on each side.
The vase is marked with its design number 44 and impressed "Made in Belgium" on its base.

It is in good vintage condition, other than a hard to notice small patch around the rim where the glaze has chipped - see pictures as they are an important part of the description.

Pottery from Torhout used to be exported throughout the Western world until the Second World War. Unique pottery creations from the 16th to the 20th century highlight the rich tradition of this almost lost artistic craft.

Torhouts pottery is polychrome decorated art pottery. Potters have been at work in Torhout since the 18th century and have laid the basis for the production of a style of art pottery that was subsequently copied and taken over by the rest of Flanders. The decorations consisted initially of appliqué, a form of folk art that reached its peak in the Art Nouveau period. In this way, Torhout and Flemish pottery acquired an identity and a reputation that spread not only over the continent but also to Britain and North America.
