Michel Corboz (1934.2.14-2021.9.2), who died in September 2021, is an emergency memorial project. Not only is it a representative recording of Corvo, but also the eternal masterpiece, which can be said to be the most famous of the many Foret: Requiem, has been newly produced for this reprint. It is a high-quality performance that retains the atmosphere of the ERARO label. In the margin, the well-established Duruflé's own performance board is coupled. This is also a historical performance. Duruflé is the first SACD. Mastering the SACD layer and CD layer separately using a master digitized at 192kHz / 24bit from the original analog master tape of the home country. With new commentary. It is a permanent storage board.
Since Corvo first visited Japan in 1989, he has been a guest performer almost every year, especially at La Folle Journe, so I think many of you have come into contact with the performance. At La Folle Journe, despite being old, he was a vigorous conductor every time. I think many people were impressed by the sincere appearance of music. The figure described as "the god of chorus command" remained alive until his later years. It is certain that it was a great pleasure during the session to come into contact with the conductor of Corvo every year for a certain period of time, and I think it was a valuable opportunity even now. Fauré's Requiem was also performed at the above music festival.
This Fauré is a representative recording of Corvo, which has been highly acclaimed internationally in the field of vocal music and religious music. It is a well-known sound source, and it is a famous performance that has also been converted to SACD. Among the many recordings nowadays, this Corvo board and the old EMI Cluytens board (released in June 2021 on the TDSA194 of this project) can still be said to be highly evaluated historical masterpieces. Since the approaches are different, it is difficult to make a general comparison, but the chorus control is particularly excellent on the Corvo board, and you can feel the sense of unity that is fused at a high level as a song, including the balance with the orchestra. Also, in this sound source, a transparent boy soprano was appointed as a soloist and became very popular. Since then, his recording activities have become active, especially as he gained international fame as a chorus conductor, and he will leave many recordings outside of ERARO. This performance will be heard for a long time as a monumental sound source that greatly influenced the subsequent activities. I have been re-recording several times after this, but this ERATO board is still exceptional. In addition, although this time it is a memorial board for Corvo, Duruflé's self-made self-made board is coupled in the margin. Since it is a valuable performance that is historically valuable with the ERATO sound source in the early days of stereo, it was regarded as an important opportunity to listen with high sound quality.
This time, we are doing the latest mastering using a flat master digitized at 192kHz / 24bit from the original 2Ch analog master tape in our home country. The master was generally in good balance and had little change over time. Therefore, I emphasized the original balance as much as possible and tried to master from a musical point of view. As a result, the sense of distance and depth of the instrument are improved, and the localization is improved, so you can enjoy the best performance without stress. In addition, a new sentence by Mr. Hiro Aiba was posted in the manual.
In this series, the SACD layer aims for a high resolution and rich sound field with a stretchy high range and soft nuances, and the CD layer aims for a realistic tone that is extruded with a cohesive and solid sound. The potential of the CD itself is high, and you can enjoy it as a SACD hybrid disc where you can enjoy the goodness of both.
