Kold Kutter Screws...why you need them.

The original and still the best! Kold Kutter screws help you get a grip when you need it most. Kold Kutter screws are used all over the world in various applications to keep you moving in the right direction.

These studs are suitable for both fresh and salt water conditions, super hardened To Rockwell Hardness standard, giving additional traction to felt, rubber or Vibram type soled footwear.

Notice the difference between conventional steel and the Kold Kutter studs in the photograph. The steel version has a less defined head compared to the Kold Kutter V wedge. Vital extra traction is gained with the V profile during contact between footwear and surface compared to the flat steel shaping.

The screw thread on the steel version is also softer. The Kold Kutter edge is much sharper allowing it to bite cleaner into the sole gripping better as it penetrates.

The Kold Kutter stud has a defined profile on the underside of the collar compared to the steel version. This bites the stud into the sole in combination with the superior screw thread, further improving contact.

Securing the stud into the sole is a personal choice. I find 15 studs per shoe ample as you still keep the wide integrity of the sole taking your weight with the studs supporting the contact. The pattern I choose is five around the ankle to mid-sole and then ten evenly spread from the mid-sole to toe zones.

When fitting screws, create a small pilot hole first. Insert screw, preferably with a small spot of Stormsure applied to the thread. Then tighten up firmly with a screw tool and leave to dry for 24 hours.

As for using glues during fixing again a personal choice. Stormsure is the current favourite with ourselves. It is great value for money and above all, works! We have been testing different soles used in salt and freshwater environments and found it secures firmly, keeping the screws locked in over a long periods of usage. It bonds within an hour. What's more you can keep opened tubes in a freezer and they are good to go, no drying out and discarding.
