We call it Dorothea, it is handmade using high-quality recycled larch wood, and this chest has its own identity  Apparently simple, this treasure box is full of mystery and charm The dark brown shades give the box an unrepeatable color, and the secret of this color is a mix of natural oils and water-based lacquers that has been kept a secret in our family of woodworkers The paint is applied successively to the surface of the wood, and between coats of paint, the box is polished, so that in the end Dorothea becomes smooth and silky to the touch

Dorothea wooden storage box blends two design directions The box borrows stylistic elements from Transylvania, but in this puzzle box we can also see design elements from the Scandinavian and industrial style

The puzzle boxes we craft by hand have a very old story, which started back when Vlad the Impaler was the ruler of Transylvania. It is said that the ladies of those times kept their most valuable items in such boxes, except theirs were much larger. I carried on my family’s tradition and inherited the pleasure of woodworking from my great-grandfather Constantin. He was a talented carpenter, and a hardworking man. One day a beautiful young woman, Ecaterina, whom Constantin loved in secret, came to visit his workshop. She asked him to make her a wooden jewelry box with a secret compartment. Constantin crafted a beautiful puzzle jewelry box, which he gave to the girl, and in the hidden compartment of the box he slipped a note that said, “This is where you can keep your dreams safe.” And he signed it, “Your future boyfriend, Constantin, 23 January 1903” ... Ecaterina was my great-grandmother!

You will discover the main compartment of the box… But appearances can be deceiving, and sometimes things that seem simple may be complicated – under the main compartment there is a hidden secret compartment, and the box has a false bottom (double bottom) that you can remove using a key Simple yet complicated, Dorothea is discreet and keeps its secret, because the false bottom is hard to discover Once you close the box, the lid remains in position even if you flip the box
