We are delighted to offer this super rare Gruen Fiftieth 50th
Anniversary Pentagon Pocket Watch for sale, this is truly a collector's grail
pocket watch so don't miss the chance to own one! In 1924 Gruen Watch Co decided to design and
manufacture a pocket watch to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of its founding
in 1874 as Columbus Watch Co by Dietrich Gruen.
To make a watch worthy of celebrating this milestone for the brand,
Gruen Watch Co decided to use 12K solid gold to forge all of the plates and
bridges for this special movement. No
expense was spared as they also put 2 cut diamond cap jewels for the balance
and escape wheel. As this was a
commemorative model, customers could only special order it through dealers for
a significant wait time, and in 1924 this watch in 14K Solid Gold Pentagon Case
was sold for $500 which was a tremendous amount of money. Only 600pcs were manufactured according to
historical records, towards the end of production it coincided with the great
depression so possibly some specimen were not fully completed. The Gruen 50th Anniversary Pocket Watch was
certainly one of the best pocket watches of its day and with such glorious
history it's such a great collecible.
Condition-wise the watch winds, sets and runs. However, since we have not had it serviced we do not make any guarantee on timekeeping accuracy or longevity. In most cases these watches were heirlooms passed through generations and well taken care of so when it needs service it just require clean/oil/adjustment. Antique pocket watches like this specimen will likely need full service to run normally, it is the sole decision and responsibility of end-user to service or not. Cosmetically the watch is in very good condition for its age of around 100 years. The dial has been repainted for the ‘GRUEN’ and ‘60’ texts and the ‘E’ text above of the seconds chapter has faded. The applied gold hour markers have also tarnished. There are also some fine scratches on the dial. Case back has two brown spots of tarnish that can be easily polished off. The true appealing part of the watch which is the solid gold movement is in great condition. Diameter is 44mm, total weight is 56.4g. Please do really take advantage of the chance to own one of the historically important pocket watches.

RETURN There is generally NO RETURNS for vintage or antique watches sold. Only exception is that return can be requested if the item significantly deviate from the listing description and must be made within 2 days after receiving item. Any doubts must be addressed before the payment is made. We will not accept returns based on arguments that comes after the payment has been made. In case a return is agreed, buyer must return the item to us first before reimbursement is made. Reimbursement will not include original shipping cost and return shipping must also be paid by the buyer. Request for returns made on the basis of claiming items are NOT AS DESCRIBED will be subjected to a 15% restocking fee and no refund will be given to original shipping cost.
