DESCRIPTION

The passport as design and art object is a beloved prop in the annals of contemporary art. In the case of Lawrence Weiner’s identi-kit for Three Star Books, we have a particularly poignant version. Composed of texts and abstract visual elements, “Suomi Finland Passi Pass Passport” is a self-portrait of Weiner’s logic in the form of an artwork. Verbal and visual cues swim in equilibrium, with text and image becoming one and the same.

Originally drawn in a blank Alfredo Jaar’s Suomi Finland passport this edition is the facsimile of a travelling note book by Lawrence Weiner. Note that the blank passport was given to Weiner by Alfredo Jaar after Jaar’s installation of “One Million Finnish Passports,” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki in 1995.

Signed, stamped and numbered deluxe edition of 50. Deluxe edition in a custom leather cover.

CONDITION

Like new condition and in the same condition as when I bought it new. Just minor dust seen in the images.
