Why we love the artist: We love the extraordinary finesse of the artist's gouaches. These beautiful colorful dresses are a unique testimony to the birth of haute couture in France and take us back to a time when ladies' outfits were made entirely by artisan artists (dresses, hats, lingerie, etc.).

Expert commentary and biography: ernest leduc is an independent Parisian designer who worked as a "dress designer" for the greatest haute couture houses of the second half of the 19th century. ernest leduc sold his gouache paintings and they were then used as a support for the creation of the dresses. Some great couturiers started like this: Poiret sold sketches to Cheruit before being hired by Doucet and dior sold sketches of hats to Claude Saint-Cyr. To our knowledge, he had two workshops in Paris: one located at 24 rue Lamartine and another at 93 Rue de martyrs.
