Sonichrome plays basic, catchy alternative rock, combining elements of the finer moments in pop music history, while still maintaining their own identity most of the time. The energy of tracks such as "Over Confident," "Honey Please" and "Innocent Journey" allow them to reach beyond the blandness of most late-'90s mainstream modern rock. "I Don't Need This Now" is a beautiful ballad that exhibits the band's range, and "Dirty Water" displays a showmanship uncommon among the self-conscious bands of this genre. Every once in awhile, however, the band settles for emulating some of their less-inventive contemporaries. "Step On Outside" sounds like an outtake from Matchbox 20's Yourself or Someone Like You, and "Pack Up And Leave" could have been written by any number of interchangeable radio bands. Still, there is something very likable about this trio. Though they are not quite there yet, given the potential shown on their major-label debut, Sonichrome are capable of great things. ~ Michael Frey
