Wizards Of The Coast released the third of the “PORTAL BEGINNER LEVEL “ Magic The Gathering sets in the summer of 1999 focused on the budding Asian MTG market. There were a total of 180 unique cards released including lands. ( 55 Rares, 55 Uncommons, 55 Commons and 15 Basic Lands

Portal: Three Kingdoms was printed in 4 languages only - Chinese-S , Chinese-T , Japanese and English. However the ENGLISH VERSION was only printed for and distributed in Australia and New Zealand exclusively.

This Marketing Strategy of limited release in much smaller markets than the USA in turn makes The ENGLISH VERSION much rarer than the other Asian language versions due to scarcity, availability and limited print runs !

Generally the Portal : Three Kingdoms English version cards sell/trade for 150 % to 500 % ( 1.5x - 5x ) of the Asian language versions.

In addition Both this ( PORTAL: THREE KINGDOMS and STARTER 1999 ) are the only two sets to have functionally UNIQUE CARDS printed in white- border in all of Magic The Gathering !!
