Heres a very rare coin. 1614 Teutonic Order 3 Taler NGC AU Details Tooled. A massive coin, weighing 86.4 grams, this 3 taler is the same diameter as the 2 taler but thicker. The tooling designation refers to numerous scratches in the field around the devices. Although having its detractions, this coin has some of the strongest detail we have seen on a Teutonic 3 Taler. In June 2019, a VF example with tooled/smoothed fields sold at Auktionen Münzhandlung Sonntag auction 30, lot 785 for $2300 including buyers fee. Our example has much more detail than that example. Another lower grade example, but with no surface tooling, sold at Kunker 371 for around $4600 including buyers fee in June 2022
