What is Hawaiian Koa Wood?
Koa is a tree - the botanical name is Acacia Koa. Here in Hawaii, it is a highly valued rare tree, endemic to Hawaii and grows nowhere else in the the world. The natural life cycle of Koa is approximately 80 to 150 years, and it can grow as high as 100 feet with a diameter as large as 6 feet wide.

But Koa is not just any tree but a special, highly unique, rare and valuable tree due to its limited availability. Historically, Koa is one of Hawaii's most honored heritage - highly revered and sacred to the people of Hawaii. In years past, the Hawaiians used Koa wood in their daily life. Today there are limited Koa trees left in Hawaii and Hawaii law bans the harvest of living trees so ALL Koa wood is from a fallen or dead tree. Koa wood is known for its deep rich colors and varied grain patterns - a wood of exceptional beauty and quality.
